Kitchen Renovation Almost Done!

Being totally honest here, and I'm SURE I have many readers who've been through this, but renovation isn't for the faint of heart! This organized, clutter-free girl is knee deep in renovations and can't wait for it to be over! And, this is ONLY our kitchen, not a whole house reno! So, I'm going to share my journey today of how I've been dealing with living in a mess and keeping my sanity - well, most of the time.

If you're following me on Instagram, I've been using the hashtag #OMFnewkitchen with all kinds of up to date photos of what's going on. I wanted to give you an update on the midway through renovating

I'm going to go through this quickly, because I'm pretty sure it will bore you if I go on and on about what happened each day - and so I'll just let you look at the changes in the pictures!

We started Day 1 off with construction by having very little left in the kitchen. My husband and I did a little demo week after week and then our contractor came in and did pretty much everything else. So, they basically ripped out the little bit of the sink we had left and then tore through all the walls and started electrical.

Day 2 - They spent most of the day doing more electrical, then putting some of the insulation back in.

Day 3 - They finished the electrical and started drywalling and plastering everything. Electrical is one of the longest parts of our whole renovation in there! I planned for seven recessed lights, two sconces, and several new switches and outlets. They finished sanding and sanding and sanding...the dust was unbelievable, even with all the plastic up in the doorways to keep it out of the rest of the house!

Day 4 - This was one of my most exciting days - the cabinets went in! This really made it feel like I was actually going to get a kitchen!

Day 5 - They finished putting in the other cabinets for the fridge and oven cabinet, which was lot of work, too!

The sink and stovetop were set in place...

...and then the quartz went in!!

Day 6 - Lots of little things done like putting the pop up power pod, prepping the walls for the tile, some more electrical, faucets in, and more.

Day 7 - Here's where we're at now. The cabinet installer ran out of trim pieces so we are waiting on pieces to arrive from MasterBrand cabinets - aren't these cabinets AMAZING???

And they finished tiling behind our coffee/wine bar and the whole wall behind the kitchen sink...all the grout is done and there are just a few things left. They will finish up the kitchen in the next week, once the supplies are here and we have everything we need.

Whew! It's been exciting and so fun to watch. We're SUPER close to being done. I moved all our stuff in and started organizing. The kitchen is going to be amazing!! What do you think of all these black cabinets and white quartz counters?

  1. I love it. That would be my dream kitchen. Next house when we downsize big sink, wall ovens.

  2. I LOVE LOVE the quartz! So beautiful! I think the black cabinets look really really great for you, but I'm not sure I can commit to black for myself. Honestly I can't commit to any design plan at the moment, I'm so indecisive (and we're nowhere near ready to tackle anything just yet). I can't wait to see your finished kitchen!

  3. I wish you'd come re-design our kitchen. We will be doing a lot, but not all, of the work ourselves (not for the first time) and the space is so small. It's hard to live without a kitchen for a while! I adore your choices in there and LOVE the backsplash tile you chose - gorgeous!

  4. That's going really fast! And it's coming together beautifully. Love the choices you have made.

  5. I think it's going fast too, but I'm sure it doesn't seem that way to you. Everything looks great so far and I can't wait to see it when it's finished.
